Wide support for Egyptian Plans for the Future, Says Country’s Representative to BRICS
Egypt’s visions and proposals included supporting mechanisms for reforming the global economic system
Friday, February 9, 2024

Ambassador Ragy El-Etreby, assistant minister of foreign affairs for multilateral economic relations and Egypt’s representative to BRICS, has said that the country’s plans for enhancing cooperation and coordination among the bloc received wide support during the organization’s talks in Moscow.

Egypt’s visions and proposals included supporting mechanisms for reforming the global economic system and pushing efforts to increase the representation of developing countries in international financial and monetary frameworks to reflect their increasing economic weight.

Plans also included strengthening ties between BRICS members and the African continent, establishing institutional links between the bodies concerned with investment in the BRICS countries, and working to develop payment systems between the countries.

Egypt has been participating for the first time in BRICS talks after joining as a full member on Jan. 1.

El-Etreby said that the meeting was the first in a series of events this year organized by the Russian presidency of BRICS.

He spoke of Egypt’s membership in the group being consistent with its strategic weight at various levels, and the contributions it makes to promoting peace and development at regional and international levels, in addition to the many opportunities the Egyptian economy provides to attract investments from the BRICS countries.

He added that Egyptian priorities within the organization also included advancing industrial transformation efforts and intensifying cooperation in the fields of energy, food security, technology transfer, and logistics.

He said that the meeting had witnessed the Russian BRICS presidency reviewing the main features of the action plan it had prepared for the current year, which leads up to October’s BRICS Summit in Kazan.
