The Chinese and Russian space agencies have selected five study objectives for the international research station on the Moon, which they plan to operate by 2035, an official source confirmed.

Zou Yongliao, director of the National Academy of Sciences, told the Global Times newspaper that the projects include one, on the evolution of the star and a second related to the search for another inhabitable planet for mankind.

They also chose the formation of the stars, the observation of the Earth and the Sun, and experiments with the cultivation of plants in that environment.

The proposals, Zou said, came after two years of consultations between prominent scientists from both countries, the first of which will make it possible to design a model of the interior of the Moon.

According to him, building such a station is a great necessity because the Moon is a field with many potentialities to explore and the idea is also to try to make use of the minerals and resources existing there.

China and Russia plan to complete the basic structure of the facility in 2028, with each country launching three missions.

The two states agreed in June 2021 to build it, and plan to test technologies for lunar landing, cargo delivery and subsequent transportation of samples to Earth between 2026 and 2030. They also plan to develop communication systems, electricity and other equipment to be used on the Moon’s surface.
