Russia's Petrobalt Design Bureau has unveiled concept design images of a new 2,490TEU container vessel that will be operated primarily between Saint Petersburg and various ports in China.

The ice class vessel is being developed to be capable of year-round operation on Arctic routes even without continuous icebreaker support.

The ship will have a length of 207.75 metres, a beam of 29.8 metres, a draught of 10.2 metres, a speed of 21.5 knots, five holds, and an open deck. The latter will be capable of accommodating both 20-foot and 40-foot containers.

A bow shield will be fitted to protect the container cargo and the deck equipment from being struck by waves.

The superstructure will meanwhile house single cabins for the 20-strong crew, a galley, a gym, and a sauna. Other outdoor facilities will include a pool that can be filled up with seawater.

Design work on the vessel will comply with Russian Maritime Register of Shipping requirements.
