The Railways of Russia, Mongolia and China Have Confirmed Plans to Increase Freight Traffic
Tuesday, October 22, 2024

The railways of Russia, Mongolia and China have confirmed plans to increase freight traffic. The protocol on approval of plans to increase freight traffic through the Russia—Mongolia—China railway corridor was signed by the heads of the neighboring railways of the three states in the Chinese city of Hohhot. This is stated in the message of Russian Railways.

The parties confirmed plans to increase the volume of cargo transportation by the Ulaanbaatar Railway to 50 million tons by 2030 and to 90 million tons by 2050. To achieve these goals, a number of infrastructure projects are being implemented on the Mongolian side at the border stations of Dzamyn-Uud and Sukhbaatar.

Thus, a second narrow-gauge track will be put into operation at the Dzamyn-Uud station, which will allow receiving more trains from the Chinese railway. Survey work has begun on the construction of a new terminal at Sukhbaatar station.

In 2023, the volume of cargo transportation of JSC UBZhD amounted to 32.4 million tons. According to the results of 8 months of 2024, this figure amounted to 21.7 million tons, which is 2.8% more than in the same period of 2023.

JSC Russian Railways (TIN 7708503727) was established on October 1, 2003 on the basis of the Ministry of Railways. The state owns 100% of the company's shares.

Russian Railways' net profit under IFRS in the first half of 2024 amounted to 114.052 billion rubles, a decrease of 11.4% compared to the same period in 2023. The holding's revenues increased by 8.5% to 1.599 trillion rubles.
