Minister Maxim A. Topilin: BRICS member states will meet in December in Moscow to discuss the key issues of population

In April 2015 Russia has started the second presidency term in BRICS. December 9-10, 2015 Moscow will host a seminar on population "Demographic challenges and development of BRICS member states."

"The seminar will be dedicated to the following key topic: problems of demography and its impact on national economic growth and social development. Empowerment of women, child and youth policy, pension benefits and overall adaptation of social protection systems to demographic changes will be examined in details", - said the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation Maxim Topilin.

"Sharing experiences and recommendations for BRICS member states will contribute to the integration of population issues in the course of macro-economic, financial, employment and social policy formation", - said the head of the Ministry.

Reference: The first meeting of Ministers responsible for population issues was held in Brasilia in February 2015. During the meeting, the ministers adopted a cooperation program of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) on Population for 2015-2020. This program establishes the direction for future cooperation on population issues in the framework of BRICS and it emphasizes that cooperation on population issues will be achieved with the help of capacity building and training; exchange of information, knowledge and experience; dissemination of best practices and lessons learned in the framework of national experiences, successes and challenges, including the annual seminar of officials and experts on population issues.
